How to Treat Post-Holiday Skin

How to Treat Post-Holiday Skin

Holidays can be a mixed bag. For some people, it can be a stressful period with the travel and fraught family reunions that would test the patience of a saint. For others, it is a magical time of the year what with Christmas decorations everywhere, parties, and never-ending Hallmark holiday movies marathon. We tend to fall somewhere in the middle ? we do appreciate cakes (ALL.THE. CAKE) are available round the clock. But somewhere between Christmas and New Years, we fall into a time warp where we aren't too certain what day of the week it is. Regardless of where you fall on the spectrum, one thing is for sure: by the end of the holiday season, our skin can look a bit lacklustre. Add the winter weather and heating on at full blast, well... our skin is weeping for some extra care.

Cleanse

Let's face it, late nights and one drink too many tend to have us reach for the micellar water. It is time to get back to your cleansing routine. Nice cleansing oil or a balm, followed with a second cleanse, can yield fab results in terms of how your skin feels and looks.

Hydrate

Sugar, alcohol, and heating can turn even the sturdiest, most resilient of skin into a dehydrated mess. Fine lines are more prominent, and the complexion is dull. It is all about light, hydrating layers ? serum, moisturiser, and facial oil. Look for ingredients like Hyaluronic acid, Ceramides, and Urea to soothe and replenish. And don’t forget your under-eye area. The skin underneath the eyes is thin, delicate, and the signs of dehydration will be visible. If you don't use an eye cream, take your hydrating serum all the way to the eye.

Try our C60 Booster (suitable for all skin types) or Multi-Ceramide Concentrate. It can be used as a serum or a moisturiser if you are combination or oily. Follow up with our c60 emulsion moisturiser (formulated to boost natural Hyaluronic acid levels in the skin).

Exfoliate

When our skin is dull and lacklustre, it is typically due to the build-up of dead skin cells on the surface of the skin. Chemical exfoliants are a sure way to help boost the shedding process. However, as much as we love a good exfoliant, we would still recommend veering on the side of caution and sticking to your normal exfoliating schedule. Likewise, if all the indulgences and stress have led to a breakout, exfoliation should keep it under control.

Try one of our chemical exfoliants.

De-puff

If you are partial to crisps or saltier food, you are probably familiar with puffiness. At-home remedies normally do the trick to momentarily reduce puffiness. Try placing a cold spoon on your eyes. Dunk some green tea bags in the boiling water, cool off, and place on your eye for a couple of minutes. Alternatively, eye creams with a high percentage of caffeine work too. On the other hand, apart from a concealer, there is no quick fix for dark circles.

Mind yourself

At the risk of going all goop-y on you, it is time to mind yourself. Drink plenty of water, eat some fruit and veg, and get a good night's rest. Also? Get some exercise. It is good for your body, mental health, and skin. If you can't face the gym/exercise class, that's ok. A brisk walk will do. If you are feeling particularly delicate, a short yoga session can do wonders for your mood. We swear by Yoga with Adriene, she has a routine for just about anything, and it can be done in the comfort of your home.
